Seal Eligibility Criteria

The following chart summarizes the eligibility criteria for Seal usage. Please refer to the Independent Seal License Agreement and usage guides (English / Français) for further explanation of how to maintain compliance when using the Seal.

Brewery Criteria

Use the Seal?

Conditions

Brewery is a full brewery or brewpub member in good standing of a Canadian provincial craft brewers association. Territories breweries will be evaluated by CCBA.

Yes

Brewery must register as a CCBA brewery member at www.ccba-ambc.org.

Brewery is not a member of a Canadian provincial craft
brewers association, or is a territories brewery not
approved by CCBA.

No

The Seal is meant to show that the brewery is a fully participating member of the craft beer community in its province or territory and supports the work being done to promote and protect its interests.

Contract Brewing Criteria

Use the Seal?

Conditions

Beer is produced under contract by another CCBA brewery member.

Yes

Producing brewery must register as a CCBA brewery member at www.ccba-ambc.org.

Beer is produced by anyone other than a CCBA brewery member.

No

The Seal is meant to show that the brand was produced in Canada by a fully participating craft brewery.

Brand Ownership Criteria

Use the Seal?

Conditions

Brewery owns the brand or licenses the brand from another CCBA brewery member

Yes

Brewery must register each beer brand bearing the
Seal with the CCBA Seal Registry.

Brewery licenses the brand from other than a registered CCBA brewery member.

No

The Seal is meant to show that the brand was developed in Canada by a fully participating craft brewery.

Third Party Use Cases

Use the Seal?

Conditions

A company producing any printed material or publishing any digital content on behalf of the Seal licensee.

Yes

Must be under contract to the Seal licensee and adhere to the terms of the Seal Licensing Agreement.
On-premise craft beer sales venue, retail craft beer sales outlet, craft beer festival/event, any other craft beer industry participants.

No

In 2020, CCBA will release a “Supporter” version of
the Seal to be used by supporting members of the craft
beer industry.
